The Castell del Rei is one of the 3 castles on rocks that can be found in Mallorca. It’s located on the grounds of Ternelles, heavenly place in the municipality of Pollença. Access is easy, since the entire route is along a forest track and acceptable slope. An exceptional itinerary that combines scenery with history.

Description

We’ll leave from Pollença to go to the mountain pass called Estret de Ternelles, where the old water mills are even observed. Once inside the Ternelles finca, owned by the descendants of the famous Juan March, we’ll approach toward the houses. From here we’ll continue towards a hill from which we could see the Castell del Rei, rock castle situated in the mountains, at an altitude of 492 meters above sea level. In Roman times, it was already used as fortification and, in the Muslim era, was, along with the Castle of Alaró, the last stronghold of resistance to the troops of Jaume I of Aragon who invaded Mallorca in 1229. From here we can go down a nice track to Cala Castell, exit and natural sea entrance by sea to the Valley of Ternelles.
